It looks familiar. Can you explain it?
However much you remember, you're welcome here. Explain a chapter out loud and Kiftet shows the ideas to learn next — and the shortest way to learn them.

ExampleSay what you remember about photosynthesis.
“Photosynthesis uses sunlight and chlorophyll to turn carbon dioxide into glucose — and it produces water and oxygen.”
2 of 5 fully explained
You said it makes water. It uses water — the reversal almost everyone gets wrong.
One round of the loop — and that gap is closing.
One minute of speaking, and you can see exactly what's missing.
Four steps. One loop. Only your gaps.

You already know
- Cell theory
- Mitochondria and ATP
Needs work
- How organelles stay in their compartments
So close — you mentioned it
You mentioned these, but didn't say what they mean or why. Usually one clear sentence each is enough — start here for the quickest gain.
- Nucleus and control of the cell
Careful — you got these wrong
These aren't ideas you skipped; you said them the wrong way. The short lesson will fix them first.
- Ribosomes and protein synthesis
Two need one sentence. One needs correcting, not re-reading. That's a very different night from “revise the whole chapter.”
87.2%
of the 563,500 students who sat the 2026 exam were still failed by the system — in the best result the country has recorded. 565 schools had zero students pass.
Students weren't absent. They sat through the classes. What's missing isn't exposure — it's knowing, before the exam, which specific ideas didn't really stick.
See the 4-year trend
The pass rate has climbed every year on record. Each step is real progress — and each one still leaves the overwhelming majority of students outside it. The reform moves at the country's pace. A student's exam doesn't wait.

Not a question bank — it tells you what to study.
Not a chatbot — it remembers you.
Not the textbook again — everything you know is left off.

Why voice?
Voice isn't a feature. It's the mechanism.
Explaining something out loud is how the underlying learning technique actually works. There's nowhere to hide off-screen — there's no option, no answer key, just what you can produce. That honesty is the diagnosis.
So you speak. Kiftet transcribes, compares what you said against the chapter's concepts, and talks you through what's left in a calm voice. Talk in, talk out.

Bring your own textbook
Your textbook is the study room.
Upload the book you're actually studying — the one that matches your syllabus — and Kiftet reads its table of contents and turns each chapter into its own say-it-out-loud → see-what's-missing → short lesson → test round.
The file is read on your device. Only the text is sent, chapter by chapter, so a whole book never becomes one heavy upload — it works on the school's wifi.

Made for the exam room
A school phone is enough
A web app, not an app-store install. Made to run on low bandwidth — and if the voice service drops, you keep going by typing.
Made for night study
Review happens when the day finally quietens down. The interface stays a calm black room lit by flat ivory, not a bright quiz app.
Honest before/after
You see how much you knew right after you speak, and again once you've worked on what was missing. If part of it is still missing, that answer is as useful as the progress.
Before you ask
The questions everyone has
Kiftet is in beta — these answers describe how it works today, and some will change by the official launch.
What is Kiftet, exactly?
A study planner. You explain a chapter out loud, Kiftet works out which specific ideas you didn't really learn, and gives you a short plan for learning exactly those. Nothing you already know is on it.
Does it work in Amharic?
Yes — the interface, the lessons and the questions can all be in አማርኛ or English. Reading a lesson aloud in Amharic needs an Amharic voice on your phone; if your phone doesn't have one, the lesson is still there as text you can read.
Does it work without internet?
Partly. If your connection drops mid-session, Kiftet keeps your answer on your phone and grades it once you're back online — it never shows a score it hasn't worked out. Grading itself needs a connection.
How is this different from ChatGPT or past questions?
A chatbot can write a study guide for a whole chapter, and past questions tell you how many you got right. Kiftet tells you which specific ideas you didn't learn — and whether you left them out or got them wrong. Then it teaches only those, and tests you again in different words.
Is it free?
Yes. Creating an account costs nothing, and the live demo needs no account at all.
All questions
- Do I have to speak out loud?
- No — you can type your answer instead. Speaking is the better test of what you really know, but typing is always there for a quiet room or a microphone that won't work.
- Which subjects and grades?
- It's built for secondary school (Grades 9–12) and works best with subjects you explain in words — Biology, History, Geography, Civics and languages. Maths, Physics and Chemistry lean on worked problems, so Kiftet can't grade them properly yet. It follows the national syllabus and the textbook you actually study from: upload your own book and every chapter becomes its own plan.
- Can the AI get it wrong?
- Yes. Kiftet uses AI to compare what you said with the chapter's ideas, and AI can misjudge. That's why you see the idea-by-idea list instead of one score, so you can check it against your book. When the AI service is busy, the result is labelled an estimate.
- How much data will it use?
- Built for low bandwidth. Your book is read chapter by chapter instead of as one heavy upload, and if the voice service drops you keep going by typing.
- Is my voice recorded or saved?
- Kiftet doesn't save your audio. Your voice is turned into text by your browser's built-in speech service (in Chrome, Google's), which processes it in real time; Kiftet keeps only the resulting text with your answer and never stores the recording. Grading uses an AI service (Gemini, with Groq as a backup), and our servers, the database (Neon) and both AI services sit outside Ethiopia — so your answer text leaves the country. It stays with your study history until you ask us to remove it.
- Is my textbook uploaded to your servers?
- Your original file stays on your device, and scanned pages are read on your phone. Only the text of the chapters you import is sent to Kiftet to build your plan, and the book's contents list is saved to your account so you can come back to it. If a page can't be read, Kiftet says so instead of guessing.
- Is my phone number safe?
- Your number is stored only so we can tell you when Kiftet launches, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
- Do I have to install anything?
- No app-store install. It's a website that opens in the browser you already have — on a school phone, on school wifi.
- Does it replace my instructor?
- No. It shows you which of tonight's hours are going on things you already know, so the time you do spend is spent better.
- Will it help me pass the exam?
- Kiftet can't promise a pass, and nobody honestly can. What it shows is a before and after on the ideas you studied, so you know what you fixed and what's still missing.
- What do I get for joining the waitlist?
- Leave your number, join our Telegram group and send one line about what you found — that locks in one month of Kiftet Premium for launch day.
